Karan and Nandini were out in the super market to purchase weekly groceries, when Karan’s phone rang. It was from Adhira, their daughter. Though Nandini could not listen to anything Adhira said, she was able to notice the change in Karan’s face. After a quick short conversation Karan informed Nandini that he needs to rush to home and left. In spite of the fact that she didn’t like it, Nandini knew that her likings will not be valued and so ultimately decided not to stop him or ask him to take her as well.
Karan was still on the phone when Nandini reached home after completing their purchase. Nandini went to kitchen to prepare tea as she knew this is not the right time to ask anything from Karan. Nandini could tell from the faint sound of Adhira's voice that she was upset about a disagreement with Abir. Abir and Adhira were 2 years in marriage and while both of them are very much involved with each other their differences come up frequently. And Adhira, who is close to her father, turns to him for help in times of conflict. Nandini has tried to encourage Adhira to approach such conflicts with compassion and understanding, in the hopes that she can resolve them on her own. This could also help Karan avoid making hasty and immature conclusions based on only Adhira’s perspective. But she knew Adhira takes her own time before she is able to listen to wise and idealistic advices coming from her mother.
Her thoughts were broken by Karan‘s loud voice, ‘It is absurd for Abir to think that you should be perfect in every sense. We have our own ways of doing things and sometimes our ways do not match others and it is completely fine beta. You should not get disheartened or try to change yourself. My princess is best and should remain the way she is.’ He told Adhira on phone.
Nandini couldn't help but think that Karan is an incredibly caring father, the best there is. It would be nice if he showed the same level of care and understanding towards his wife. She remembered how Karan used to nitpick even the smallest details early in their marriage. He gave her little time to adjust and refused to listen to her. He wanted her to be perfect and blamed her upbringing. Nandini wondered if he is the same person. However, she is happy that her children have such a loving and caring father.
‘Sirji, the tea is ready’ she shouted as she walked towards Karan. She sure has grown up to be a perfectionist by striving for inner peace.
